President’s Blog: Cornwall County ASA Teams Relays and Junior Interclub Galas
Last weekend saw the start of the county programme of events kicking off with some exciting racing at both the Interclub Relays at Penzance and the Junior Interclub competition at Bodmin on Sunday.
It was also my first county events as president this year and it was amazing to see so many excited swimmers pulling together to do the best they could for their clubs. The atmosphere was charged, the volumes of support and cheering was very loud and the appreciation of every swimmer in the pool by the spectators and parents was second to none. There were some close competed races and even records broken.
I must admit that some of my favourite events in the calendar are the team events but also the younger and developing swimmers and helping to shape their futures. You can only be caught up in their excitement and screams for their team mates.
Saturdays event went right to the wire with Truro City and Carn Brea & Helston vying for first place. Both teams finished with the same amount of points but with Truro City taking the title on the count back of first place finishes.
It was so lovely to be able to present the trophy to Truro City as winners of the Junior Interclub on Sunday and so lovely to congratulate their whole team as you can see in the lovely photo taken on the day.
I want to thank all the supporters and volunteers across the county that make these events run smoothly, the silent heroes that pull these events together but to all the clubs, coaches, team managers, our officials who run the meets and of course our swimmers, without who we wouldn’t be here.
I’m looking forward to next upcoming events in our calendar.
